John Robb from Louder Than Bombs reviewed the 4 October 2011 show.

Marr still sports that scruffed up mop of hair- his follicle tribute to Howard the bass player from Slaughter And the Dogs, the Wythenshawe yobs who inspired both the Roses and the Smiths by making it from outside the city centre hipster circle and who took the bootboy glam ethic to it’s logical conclusion.

The band are not hanging about and launch straight into the Smiths ‘Shakespeare’s Sister’, it’s strange to hear the very familiar guitar aligned the the unfamiliar vocal. Marr understandably sounds a touch nervous tackling Morrissey’s idiosyncratic vocal but he acquits himself well before launching into the first of the new songs, the twanging guitar shakes of ‘Psycho Beginner’ which instantly sets the stall. It’s brisk, focussed and twangy with a great chorus, great song and Marr is back in business.

Great gig. It was my first (and definatley not my last) visit to this fantastic venue. I loved hearing Johnny play those riffs that seem to have been around forever, but still manage to sound so fresh. I was slightly disappointed in the lack of ‘Boomslang’ tracks, but the new material sounded great too.

If the Healers are playing in NYC it must be a secret?

  • Healers played last night (10/13) at a private party for Ray Ban at the Angel Orensanz Foundation on Norfolk St in Manhattan last night. Too bad I missed it!!
