Johnny Marr’s ‘Strum and Drang’

Johnny Marr came up with the idea of providing 5 elements of inspiration for four upcoming bands, Best Coast, Tom Vek, Au Revoir Simone and Mona, to help them create an original song for the Ray-Ban Raw Sounds project. He offered a quote from Friedrich Schiller “Keep true to the dreams of your youth”, a poem inspired by his recent trip to Moscow, an old map of New York’s Lower East Side, a photo taken of two friends looking at each other, and this video of Johnny playing a looped riff.
