Mojo Celebrates the 25th Anniversary of The Queen Is Dead
The April 2011 issue of Mojo has Morrissey and Johnny Marr on the cover to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Queen Is Dead. The iconic photo of the student protester wearing the Hatful Of Hollow t-shirt is the cover for the cd that comes with the magazine titled “PANIC 15 Tracks of Riotous ’80′s Indie Insurrection!”. Dusty Springfield, an early influence on Johnny, is also featured on the cover with the inside story of “Memphis Soul… & Heartbreak”. Jon Savage, who met up with Johnny Marr at the beginning of February, contributes his take on the band.
Recorded 25 years ago, The Queen Is Dead is Morrissey and Marr’s masterpiece, its power and arrogance forged on the road in 1985. Martin Aston tells the story of a legendary tour, Jon Savage salutes a band in its prime and a cast of stars praise the album, track by track.

For me The Smiths ruined music. By that I mean that ruined any other music then and forever after as I knew that no other music would ver be as poetic, as emotional and as beautiful. I don’t regret it for a second. The Smiths are the greatest band that has ever been.
