Johnny Marr’s guitar playing was featured in BBC’s ‘I’m In A Rock ‘n Roll Band’ where he demonstrates his layering of guitar sound on the classic Smiths song ‘This Charming Man’ in this unedited clip taken from I’m In A Rock ‘n Roll Band – The Guitarist.
When you get your attitude right, it effects the way you play…I was just trying to match the sound of the emotion, really. I think it’s a good thing if there’s vulnerability in it.
Mark Radcliffe narrated five episodes of a six part series I’m In A Rock n’ Roll Band, beginnning 1 May 2010 on BBC Two. Each episode focused on different parts of the guitar band – The Singer, The Guitarist, The Drummer, The Other One and The Band. The last episode aired live before an audience hosted by Jonathan Ross with a guest panel that included Lauren Laverne, Mark Radcliffe and Stewart Copeland. The featured musicians and bands were discussed and voted on. Guitar nominees were Jeff Beck, Matthew Bellamy, Eric Clapton, Graham Coxon, Johnny Marr, Jimmy Page, Slash, Pete Townshend, Jack White and the ultimate winner, Jimi Hendrix.
